International School of Luxembourg
An IT plan for a play area at the International School of Luxembourg.

For this project, which began in 2025, the Plantations Weisen team was tasked with designing an outdoor school space conceived as a true green and playful haven.

In collaboration with Luximaj (which specializes in playground structures), our mission was to design a stimulating environment for the elementary school students at the International School of Luxembourg, while ensuring a strong connection to nature.

What is the main idea behind this schoolyard greening project? To create a stimulating environment for children while maintaining a strong, structuring presence of nature.

This playful landscaping creates a more natural environment that promotes biodiversity on school grounds, while also providing a peaceful space for everyone to enjoy.

1. Precision adjustments: building the trays and woodworking

Bringing this concept to life required meticulous landscape carpentry work on-site.

One of the key elements of the project is the arrangement of the logs. They structure the space by creating custom-made planters, while also helping to stabilize the soil between the different levels of the site. Beyond their technical function, they also lend a natural, warm aesthetic that fits perfectly with the spirit of the project.

To ensure the structure's durability and safety, our teams took special care with the finishing touches:

Land stabilization & retention:

The logs were arranged to hold the topsoil in place and define the different levels of the terrain.

Cutting and assembly:

Complex, custom cutting and assembly work was carried out directly on site to construct extremely sturdy and durable structures.

Safety and finishes:

For school use, safety is paramount. Each component has been drilled, securely anchored, and meticulously sanded to eliminate any sharp edges or risk of splinters.

2. A construction site ready for the next phase

From designing the 3D plans to working with the logs and preparing the structures, the foundation for this future green haven has now been laid.

This first step lays the groundwork for the development of a school outdoor space designed by Plantations Weisen, where the strength of the wood prepares for the imminent arrival of soil and plants.
